SibFU Scientists’ Know-How to Increase Life of Spacecraft

Joint SibFU and Research and Production Centre of Magnetic Hydrodynamics venture has launched a super-fine wire which is used in spacecraft production.

The development allows to make aircraft wire from high conductivity aluminium with the former being able to withstand high temperature ratio during continuous exploitation.

The Krasnoyarsk engineers say the development is unique in that employment of peculiar high-frequency electromagnetic field which makes casting of aluminium continuous. As a consequence, the wire exhibits unique physical and mechanical properties and is unrivalled in Russia.

The electrotechnical aluminium wire created by Krasnoyarsk scientists offers characteristics of critical importance for aerospace engineering allowing to begin the full cycle of mass production of aluminium electrical wiring interconnect system, i.e. it is lightweight, has high conductivity and thermal stability.

By now the engineers have modernized the laboratory facility and experimental industrial complex which will be instrumental in organizing batch production of goods made of various aluminium alloys. Furthermore, the technology and the equipment have been patented in Russia.

Molecular Genetic Laboratory Opens at SibFU

On April 17, 2017, Scientific and Practical Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Methods of Research was opened at Siberian Federal University. The laboratory is organized by SibFU and Federal Siberian Scientific and Clinical Center of FMBA of Russia.

The laboratory is part of Personalized Medicine Center, established under the agreement on scientific and educational activities between SibFU and FMBA of Russia.

Specialists of the laboratory want to optimize the diagnostics and methods of therapy of diseases based on genome and cell epigenome research. As a result databases of correlation links between gene polymorphisms and known diseases will be obtained.

In the long term, it is planned to use the laboratory capabilities in forming a genetic passport of human health containing information on the characteristics of DNA structure, individual predisposition to a number of diseases and sensitivity to various medicinal products.

The genetic passport will help the patient to start disease prevention in time, choose more precise treatment for existing diseases and avoid consequences of drug side effects.

Intelligent Street Lighting Project Wins Competition

Intelligent Street Lighting Project heads the list marking the end of TechnoShow university competition on 28 April 2017. Polytechnic School student and the captain of the winning team Yuriy Eronin claims the solution helps to cut street lighting energy consumption in half.

“When we use motion detectors, there surfaces the issue of delayed lighting. We may walk a considerable distance before the light comes on,” says Yuriy. “Our system eliminates this delay by means of neighbouring detector “communication”. The moment you are in the coverage area of one of the detectors, it signals all the other detectors in a certain range that it is time to switch on the streetlights. Intelligent street lighting not only makes it possible for people not to wander in the dark but also increases the service life of bulbs on average by a year.”

Technoshow is a pilot student project and has been around since 2014. This year, School of Space and Information Technologies took part along with the founder of the competition, Polytechnic School.

The competition goal is to engage gifted students into scientific research, project and pioneering work of student design bureaux and scientific societies and laboratories, and also development of engineering and innovative work of postgraduate students and young scientists.

The following projects reached the final:
• Lightened Frame of Sports Cars for Official Competition;
• Electric Bike Class L1 and L3;
• Anthropomorphic Robot;
• Mobile Robot.
